Longitudinally Welded Steel Tubes

Longitudinally welded tubes are welded along the length of the tube and can be manufactured in two distinct methods, each offering its own set of advantages.

In the first production method, a coil is used. The coil is unrolled and folded widthwise to create a circular shape. Subsequently, the seam is welded, forming a “longitudinal seam” along the entire length of the tube. This continuous process continues until the coil is fully unwound, making it suitable for standard diameters and thicknesses.

The second production method involves using a steel plate, which is rolled into a tube shape precisely tailored to the customer’s project specifications. These tubes are also welded along the length of the tube, earning them the designation “longitudinally welded.” Due to the limited length of separately produced tubes, they are typically joined together using a round seam. This method is not constrained by specific diameters or thicknesses, making it well-suited for projects that require particular sizes, such as thick-walled tubes.

Longitudinally welded tubes find applications in various uses, including piles, bored piles, mooring posts/fenders, (leading) jetties, and piping.
